Available at CSO In Concert Monday, January 8, 2018 - Monday, January 15, 2018.
Originally performed on March 3 & 4, 2017
Louis Langrée, conductor
Katia and Marielle Labèque, pianos
Stravinsky: Symphonies of Wind Instruments
Mozart: Concerto for Two Pianos
Stravinsky: Concerto in D, Basel
Mozart: Symphony No. 40
Although from different eras and backgrounds, both Mozart and Stravinsky had in common a musical genius that is strikingly in evidence this weekend. The phenomenal Labèque sisters return to the CSO stage for the first time since 1999 to perform Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos, a clever musical “conversation” he wrote to play with his own sister, Nannerl. Stravinsky’s Symphonies of Wind Instruments, a colorful musical collage he dedicated to Debussy, “my father in music,” and Mozart’s exceptional and tremendously popular Symphony No. 40 complete the program.
