Preston Sturges. Whadda ya mean you never heard of him? Sturges was
a master writer-director for about eight years in Hollywood before his career
also pretty much self-destructed. Most of his films during the 1940-1948 period
are absolute masterpieces.
The Miracle Of Morgan's Creek (1944) is just now being released on
DVD, and is a don't-miss title. It was the perfect vehicle for the often
over-the-top Betty Hutton and a great comic showcase for the talented Eddie
Bracken.
Watch the film, absorb the plot, listen to the dialogue, and you won't
believe this film came out in 1944...let alone in wartime! Once you see this,
you'll want to discover all the other great Sturges films from this period.
