The War of the Worlds (1953)

Review by: Larry Thomas
Paramount has releasedThe War of the Worlds (1953) to coincide with the
release of the stinky remake from the summer of 2006. There are a few extras,
not the least of which is an audio commentary with Gene Barry and Ann Robinson,
the two stars of the film.
These days, it's tough to find a 52-year-old movie where both of the
lead players are still living. And yes, in keeping with the times in which it
was made, some of you may find parts of it corny, but I defy you not to marvel
at the splendor of the special effects.
Considering the era and budget of the film, it's wonderful to look at.
The pulse-pounding score by Leith Stevens is another standout addition to this
terrific flick.
