Grieg: Peer Gynt
Estonian National Symphony Orchestra
Paavo Järvi, conductor soloists: Peter Mattei, Camilla Tilling, Charlotte Hellekant; Ellerhain Girls’ Choir; Estonian National Male Choir
Review by: Robert Zierolf
The suites from Peer Gynt are well known, and "In the Hall of the Mountain
King" is frequently excerpted, but the score of the complete incidental
music for Ibsen's play has only recently been made available in usable form.
This recording uses this version, sanctioned by Grieg, and performed with spirit.
Orchestra and choirs capture the character of each number, many of which will
be new to most listeners.
