The Mozart Album
Orchestra Mozart, Dresden Staatskapelle, Scottish Chamber Orchestra,
Mahler Chamber Orchestra
Anna Netrebko, Christoph Strehl, Thomas Quasthoff, Elina Garanca, Bryn Terfel,
René Pape, Erika Miklosa, Christine Rice, Miah Persson
Review by: Robert Zierolf
The Mozart Album features 9 arias, 3 duets, and a trio from Mozart's
operas. Anna Netrebko is heard most, and as on her other recordings of Mozart's
arias she communicates a sense of the drama with a substantial palette of colors,
marred occasionally by tentative dynamic attacks and range just a bit below
her best voice.
Orchestral accompaniments are adequate. These excerpts can be heard on other
recordings, some by the same performers, but as a sample of this repertoire
the CD is quite satisfying.
