The Lamentations of Jeremiah:
Couperin’s Leçons de Ténèbres
The melodic songs by the great French composer François Couperin, taken from the soulful “Lamentations of Jeremiah,” will move you with their floating vocals and harmonious accompaniment of chamber organ and bass viola da gamba. These Lamentations (Leçons) are considered some of the finest of all sacred music from the French baroque period, and had a strong influence on sacred music throughout Western Europe. Discover the culmination of the French Baroque style in these lovely spiritual pieces, featuring sopranos Jennifer Paulino (San Francisco, CA) and Sherezade Panthaki (Champaign, IL), with the accompaniment of Adam Pearl (harpsichord) and Annalisa Pappano (bass viola da gamba).
