Music Cincinnati - November 11, 2007
Our November edition of "Music
Cincinnati" comes from The Catacoustic Consort.
Fellowship of the Viol:
Each year, artistic director Annalisa Pappano invites the finest professional viol players from around the world for a program of music for viola da gamba enemble. This program (recorded in November, 2006) contains joyous English verse anthems featuring music at the dawn of the Episcopal Church.
This concert blends five voices with five violas da gamba (stringed Renaissance played with a bow, similar to a cello). The music in this program was originally performed for private, devotional use and in church services in Elizabethan England. Composers include Orlando Gibbons, Thomas Tomkins, John Wilbye, William Byrd, and John Cosyn.
