For nearly a decade, photographer Stephen Marc has traveled to Underground Railroad sites in more than 20 states and Canada, documenting the places and people associated with this network of secret routes and safe houses used by enslaved African Americans seeking freedom. Join us at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center for the special exhibition, Stephen Marc: Passage on the Underground Railroad, which utilizes dramatic landscapes of the Underground Railroad to create powerful stories that bring the past into the present.

An early form of photography, daguerreotypes are exquisitely detailed, one-of-a-kind images created on a mirror-like silver surface. Dozens of daguerreotype studios made Cincinnati their home in the mid-19th century. This exhibition features a small selection of Cincinnati-related daguerreotypes from local and regional collections.

Rookwood Pottery Artists at Contemporary Art Center and NYC

The Rookwood Pottery Co., in collaboration with artists from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, will unveil two art installations at the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC), Cincinnati, and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), New York. The identical installations – intricately designed fireplaces of Rookwood tile – were handcrafted by the artists over 12 months and are available for purchase. One of the fireplaces will be part of the CAC’s “The Living Room” exhibit. The other will be at the 25th Annual ICFF show, a global exhibit of contemporary design.
